The Immediate Care Center is a specialized unit within The James that provides same-day care for oncology, hematology, and sickle cell patients. While it operates with the urgency and responsiveness of an acute care setting, it is distinct from both traditional outpatient clinics and the Emergency Department. Patients are typically more stable than those seen in the ED but still require timely evaluation and treatment. Referrals are coordinated directly through the patients oncology team, often based on real-time clinical concerns that need same-day attention. This approach helps reduce unnecessary ED visits and ensures rapid access to specialized care, supporting Ohio States commitment to exceptional outcomes and efficient care delivery.
