SUMMARY: This position will be instrumental in creating the corporate controller function. The corporate controller will up tier capabilities as Wheeler transitions from divisional accounting and reporting to stand-alone accounting and reporting. This leader will be an integral member of the senior team, reporting to the CFO, interacting with all leaders and the accounting committee of the Board of Directors while being responsible for company-wide accounting policy, compliance, financial reporting, and process improvement, and shared services, including tax, treasury, accounts receivable and accounts payable. This individual is a self-starter with a passion for process improvement and systems efficiency.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Preparation and filing of accurate, timely, and compliant financial reports for a private equity owned company, including reports and compliance certificates to debt investors and to the board of directors.
  • Lead an organization with over 20 employees with responsibility and oversight for all aspects of accounting, monthly financial close, project accounting, accounts receivable, billing, payables, interacting with auditors, tax partners and compliance.
  • Lead and maintain company wide systems integrations including financial close and consolidation reporting. Responsible for company-wide general ledger.
  • Responsible for all critical accounting matters and ensuring company compliance with all applicable GAAP rules and regulations. Pays particularly close attention to complex corporate accounting matters requiring judgment and valuation analysis (reserves and accruals, goodwill and intangibles, insurance, management compensation, and earnout).
  • Coordinate with tax efforts, expected to be co-sourced with an accounting firm, for tax payments and reconciliations between tax and GAAP reported financial statements.
  • Actively manages risks and controls to ensure adequacy against internal policies and external professional standards.
  • Liaise with Board of Directors Audit Committee; present at least quarterly to Committee on financial results of businesses, financial controls and policy adherence, key accounting matters and company-wide analysis (as necessary) to support conclusions and rationale.
  • Assist in acquisition and divestiture due diligence and post-closing integration for acquisitions.
  • Leads company wide process improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS



  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA);
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting;
  • 12 plus years of progressive experience / at least 8 years increasing Accounting experience;
  • At least 6 years as a manager of a Controllership or similar Audit organization, including the controller of a stand-alone corporation;
  • Strong understanding of all GAAP related policies;
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with experience communicating directly to boards of directors and external auditors;
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS



  • Big 4 or national CPA firm experience; MBA or masters in accounting
  • Experience in distribution or automotive/manufacturing businesses;
  • Experience in INFOR software
  • Previous experience in oversight for (either) implementation or administration of Corporate Consolidation system;
