THE POSITION The Department of Transportation, Engineering District 6-0 invites you to step beyond the confines of the office and immerse yourself in the field as a Transportation Technician. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will align permit programs with departmental goals by overseeing the organization, direction, planning, and coordination of all related strategic initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assessing customer needs and expectations while adhering to sound management practices. You will conduct field inspections of permitted projects to ensure compliance with permits and departmental regulations, as well as monitor various stages of construction work. Additionally, you will assist in verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. Your inspections will cover the placement of materials such as concrete and drainage systems, as well as work zone traffic control, backfill compaction, and highway restoration efforts. Engaging with department staff, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public will be essential to ensure the successful administration of these projects. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an Ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Other Requirements: This particular position requires possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
