JOB SUMMARY
Reviews all available donor information to evaluate donor eligibility and tissue suitability for transplantation. Works under minimal supervision to independently perform review of clinical information for eye and tissue donors to determine eligibility and suitability for transplantation in accordance with the policies and procedures of Transplant Services Center (TSC), FDA regulations and the standards of the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA).

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education


    • Completion of two years of college, to include at least six (6) credit hours in basic science -OR-
    • Candidates without the stated minimum education, but with an additional three (3) or more years' experience in screening and authorization in organ, eye, or tissue banking may be considered.




  • Experience


    • 3 years of experience in a clinical healthcare setting, preferably in organ, eye, or tissue banking

JOB DUTIES



  • Reviews all available donor information to evaluate donor eligibility and tissue suitability for transplantation. Information reviewed and evaluated includes patient demographics, circumstances of death, cause of death, authorization, donor risk assessment interview, infectious disease testing, hospital medical record, autopsy/pathology reports, donor recovery records, cooling information, tissue evaluation and processing records.
  • Obtains additional medical information from physicians, pathologists, RNs and other hospital staff as needed.
  • Serves as a medical director designee to determine donor eligibility for ocular donors.
  • Recommends donor eligibility determination to medical directors for tissue donors.
  • Consults with TSC directors and medical directors as needed to determine donor eligibility and tissue suitability.
  • Performs quality control of documentation of donor records to ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Communicates with other TSC staff to obtain needed information and/or corrections on donor records.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable TSC standard operating procedures, FDA regulations, AATB Standards, and EBAA Medical Standards.
  • Ensures accurate and complete documentation for all functions performed.
  • Attends and participates in Quality Assurance meetings.
  • Assists with special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
