8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
This position may be eligible for a telework schedule once onboarding into position is complete and with supervisor approval.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as the Coordinator of Outreach & Engagement - with responsibility for direct oversight of strategic communications, marketing initiatives, and campus engagement efforts to elevate awareness and participation in UREC programs and services. Additionally, this position ensures that all outreach and engagement strategies align with departmental goals, uphold UREC's mission, and contribute to a dynamic, student-centered experience.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from a four year college or university and one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Job Duties
Strategic Communications & Brand Management (30%)

  • Develop and implement departmental programs, events, services, and campaigns to promote and advance the UREC brand
  • Serve as the primary planner and ensure alignment with departmental goals and timelines
  • Lead recurring strategy meetings with UREC leadership team and other professional staff, and measure analytics success
  • Develop department brand identity and visual standards and ensure compliance to UREC, Health & Wellbeing, Student Affairs, and UNC Charlotte standards
  • Chair the UREC Brand Management Committee
  • Represent UREC on the Health & Wellbeing Outreach Committee


Project Management & Creative Design (30%)

  • Manage request forms and project management systems
  • Intake, prioritize, and delegate requests from UREC staff
  • Maintain organized timelines and ensure all projects are executed on time and to standard
  • Guide, create, and oversee publishing of content for UREC's social media channels
  • Manage and update the UREC website and provide guidance to professional staff that oversee program specific pages to maintain consistency
  • Track request trends to inform future planning

Supervision (20%)

  • Supervise the creative team, including graphic designers, photographers, brand ambassadors, and content creators
  • Facilitate student employee trainings and meetings that ensure job responsibilities are able to met, as well as the development of leadership and other career readiness skills
  • Provide guidance and support on assigned projects, ensure deliverables meet expectations, and manage day-to-day coordination of tasks deliverables

Department Leadership and Administration (10%)

  • Actively participate as a member of the UREC professional staff team, including professional staff team meetings
  • Ensure that the UREC mission is achieved and values are upheld
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of department strategic plans and annual goals/priorities
  • Advocate for UREC and foster campus and community partnerships to advance physical activity and holistic wellbeing

General Administration (10%)

  • Attend and actively participate in all mandatory Health & Wellbeing Unit, Student Affairs, and UNC Charlotte meetings and trainings
  • Serve on Health & Wellbeing Unit, Student Affairs, and UNC Charlotte committee and working groups as assigned
  • Represent UREC on the Health & Wellbeing Outreach and Engagement Committee
  • Actively participate in NIRSA and/or other relevant professional associations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Development and Engagement

Independence and/or Administrative Authority
The Coordinator will work independently with oversight and supervision of areas of responsibility with the expectation established and communicated by the Director of the Unit. The Coordinator will meet with the Assistant Director on a regular basis. Actions would be expected to be for the betterment of the population served and positively represent the University at all times. Integrity with planning, fiscal management, and other duties are expected at all times.
Level of Guidance or Supervision the Position Receives and From What Source(s)
The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Student Development and Engagement and indirectly to the Associate Director of Programs. The Associate Director will provide feedback regularly through formal and informal interactions, and the Assistant Coordinator is expected to keep the Assistant Director informed of all relevant job responsibilities, projects, and issues.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, recreation, graphic design, or a related field, Master's Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in higher education, recreation, or wellness industries preferred.
  • Experience in design, communications, outreach, social media management, or student development.
  • Experience operating professional camera equipment and related editing software.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with project management platforms (Trello, Asana, Monday.com, or similar).
  • Supervisory experience with student staff, graduate assistants, or part-time staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator) and Canva.
