Propulsion Systems Technician
Location: El Cajon, CA
Pay Range: $42.00-$55.00 per hour, based on experience
Travel: Up to 35% (field and marine service environments)
Schedule: Full-Time

Are you an experienced diesel engine technician with a passion for marine applications? Join our team as a Propulsion Systems Technician, where you'll perform critical overhauls, diagnostics, and maintenance on large-bore marine diesel engines both in the shop and out in the field. You'll represent our company with professionalism, maintain detailed service records, and play a vital role in keeping vessels running efficiently and reliably.

What You'll Do
- Conduct inspections and diagnostics to assess engine condition and identify deficiencies.
- Perform overhauls and mechanical repairs based on diagnostics and service schedules.
Conduct sea trials and adjust engines to ensure peak performance. - Evaluate service options to contain costs and leverage warranties.
- Maintain detailed engine and service records.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers while on-site.
- Provide progress reports and updates via email.
- Mentor and support apprentice marine technicians.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and vehicle.
- Perform MTU dyno acceptance testing per manufacturer standards.
- Complete required manufacturer training, online and in person.
What You Bring
Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in diagnostic software, electronic engine controls, and multimeters.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
Experience & Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Technical school preferred).
- 5+ years of experience working on diesel engines (marine experience preferred).
- Experience with MTU engines and Diasys software is a strong plus.
- TWIC card preferred but not required.
Additional Requirements
- Must own a full set of mechanic's tools.
- Maintain a clean and organized company service vehicle.
- Travel up to 35% required to customer and vessel sites.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
