Pay:

Visterra offers competitive pay commensurate with experience in a similar position. The range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 annually, but actual compensation will vary depending upon new hire experience and qualifications as well as internal equity.

Role Overview:

As the Senior Benefits Specialist, you will lead the strategic design, implementation, and optimization of our employee benefits programs. You will be instrumental in developing scalable, compliant, and employee-centric solutions that support our growing footprint and dynamic operating environment. This role requires deep expertise in corporate benefits administration, a track record of successfully rolling out new benefit initiatives, and a proactive, hands-on approach suited for a fast-paced, start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions, issues, and escalations.
  • Administer all benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) retirement plans.
  • Coordinate and execute benefits enrollment events in the HRIS, including open enrollment setup, testing, and launch.
  • Partner with HRIS administrators to ensure accurate benefit plan configurations and data feeds.
  • Process employee benefit changes and life events in the HRIS in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review and reconcile benefits invoices and billing statements; resolve discrepancies with vendors.
  • Conduct regular audits of benefits data and enrollment records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Generate and analyze reports related to benefits participation, costs, and trends.
  • Develop and present data-driven reports to senior leadership that evaluate plan performance, cost analysis, and employee engagement
  • Maintain and update employee-facing benefits materials and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to improve processes and employee experience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, with a proven record of leading implementations and driving benefits strategy.
  • Prior experience in a corporate, multi-entity environment is required; startup or high-growth experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of benefits-related laws and compliance requirements.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and execute initiatives from ideation to rollout.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and educate diverse employee populations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and benefits systems; experience with ADP is a strong plus.
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time and be on-site when not traveling.
