Overview
EMS Supervisor Full-Time; 12hr shifts Primarily, occasional 24hr Shift. Responsible for supervising the daily activities of the unit utilizing quality and cost-effective patient care principles to including operations, staffing levels and employee relations. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional emergency medicine knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining a practice environment that reflects the UnityPoint Health-FOCUS values in accordance with Iowa Department of Public Health regulations.

Responsibilities
Leadership
- Prioritizes, reassigns, and redistributes work, to include scheduling and delegating workflow of patient care in an organized manner.
- Reviews/reassigns patient assignments based on continuity and skill level of the team member.
- Coordinates scheduling and maintains appropriate staffing levels and effectively communicates with others to ensure staffing requirements are met.
- Coordinates orientation program and training of newly hired team members.
- Coordinates staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs including competences.
- Collaborates with the Manager, effectively resolving complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises as they occur within the unit.
- Provides assistance/orientation to those team members that are temporarily reassigned to their unit for the shift.
Employee Development / Performance Improvement
- Evaluates and guides staff through coaching and provides immediate feedback and responds to difficult inquiries and problems.
- Provides feedback and input to Manager for ongoing performance management.
- Completes and issues performance evaluations with input from the Manager/Director.
- Collaborates with the Manager to complete patient and employee rounding to meet standards.
- Assists Manager with performance improvement action plans and implementation of plans, monitoring of supplies/distribution and chart audits. Completes appropriate reports as delegated by Manager.
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate prehospital medical care.
- Adapts and adjusts the patient's care plan according to the patient's needs in the prehospital setting.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care.
- Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service.

Minimum Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Successful completion of paramedic training from an approved training course.
- Three years of paramedic experience.
- Current Paramedic certification.
- Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement
- PALS, ACLS, and NRP certification.
