Responsibilities
- Developing New Clients/Projects by working with past clients or as the primary contact with new clients, seeking out new projects that may exist or are being formulated, participating in the development of proposals as required.
- Train and Develop Team Members - Evaluate the skills and capabilities of the subsidiary's geotechnical engineers. Work with operations management to identify geotechnical hiring needs and help to facilitate the hiring of qualified and above-average individuals. Develop and provide training opportunities to enable these individuals to fulfill their responsibilities and develop professionally. Have an active role in recruiting, mentoring and technical talent creation. Develop short and long term goals for the geotechnical engineers and review those goals semiannually.
- Serve as the primary contact for those clients that will best be served by being the primary contact or when this is requested by the client, being the individual that is the lead contact person for interaction with the firm and the client's decision maker.
- Serve as Technical Expert by assisting regional directors and project managers to establish project teams and serving as an active member of a project team when required. Provide advice, counsel, and peer review to ensure the technical appropriateness and accuracy of field work, including subcontractor work, and all documents and reports.
- Have active role in recruiting engineering staff - Work closely with ECS Corporate Services on our university recruiting program, developing relationships with key universities and attending recruiting fairs personally.
- Maintaining Technical Proficiency of Team Members by monitoring the technical skills of all newly hired team members and developing and implementing training/educational programs required by company personnel to keep the overall company at the "leading edge" of technology as it relates to the work being undertaken.
- Developing and Implementing Educational Programs for client-focused educational programs that will be of value to existing and prospective clients and will contribute to achieving the company's goals.
- Keeping company personnel abreast of regulations by establish the communications channels and vehicles required to be current on the regulatory changes and their implications on current and future projects. Creating the required internal document/vehicles to transfer this information to all regional personnel and putting into the appropriate company communications system.
- Being a public relations ambassador being proactive in presenting and communicating the capabilities and strengths of the company to all publics.
- Participate or Lead the review committee for all Subsidiary Engineers who seek Principal promotion (Geotechnical).
- Attend national conferences (including as an exhibitor) that focus on our industry to include IFCEE, PDCA, DFI, ASCE, ADSC, etc. With the help of other Engineers, submit at least one scholarly paper and/or give a conference presentation each year.
- If projects present a potential or actual professional liability concern to ECS, actively engage with the Principal-in-Charge, Branch manager, subsidiary executives and our legal staff and the client to lessen or remove these concerns. Stay engaged until a resolution is achieved.
- Assist in establishing new service lines in different offices. For example, evaluate various markets across subsidiary and decide in which locations we can establish additional service lines, such as Pile Driving Analyzer and other dynamic testing services, monitoring services and other specialized service lines not currently offered in those markets. Establish the personnel and equipment needs as well as training requirements.
Qualifications
- BS and a MS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university with a concentration in geotechnical engineering.
- 20+ years of technical, managerial, and training experience.
- Must have a PE license, or be capable of obtaining local licensure within six months following date of hire.
- If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required.
