Summary of Position: A Peer Coach is a student guide for new students at Ferris State. They will provide information, encouragement, skills, perspective, and feedback to the students. They are an additional resource and a first friend to help our newest students succeed!
Position Requirements: - Be an active leader on campus who attends activities
- Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Willing to commit from approximately August 1st to May 15th
- Ability to develop rapport with students from diverse backgrounds
- Have a strong desire to help other students attain personal and career goals
- Committed to keeping information confidential
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Adheres to the policies and procedure of Ferris State and the Peer Engagement Coach program.
- Establish and maintain appropriate conduct with assigned student.
- Provide assistance to students participating in the Coaching program through a variety of communication modes
- Help in the development of skills necessary for students to succeed in school
Motivate students toward achieving positive grades, participation in activities and student organizations, meeting friends, and developing personal goals
- Serve as a resource person for the student and make referrals through Navigate
- Serve as a role model for the student
- Provide a caring connection for the student
- Assist or lead social and educational programming
- Promote program activities and events
- Plan, implement, evaluate programming - To include but not limited to: room reservations, catering reservations, advertising, supply purchases, cash handling, event set-up, staffing event, finding and leading volunteers.
- Document all information using Navigate
