Transporter-Radiology

The Transporter for the Radiology Department is responsible for:

  • Transports patients safely and effectively by wheelchair or stretcher using side rails, safety straps and locks as appropriate. Exercises caution with regards to IV lines, pumps, monitors, oxygen tanks, and other medical devices. Trains on and utilizes lifting or transporting aides (i.e. Arjo lift).
  • Recognizes equipment or patient problems and brings it to the attention of the nurse, technologist, or physician as appropriate.
  • Observes/monitors patient for comfort, safety, mental and physical status while transporting and while in other department areas. Alerts the nurse, technologist, or physician, of patient problems or concerns.
  • Provides for patient confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy. Interacts effectively with patients of all age groups and maintains clinical competency in job responsibilities as evidenced by annual completion of competency for Transporters. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective hospital operations and quality patient care.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors by requiring and supporting establishment, maintenance, and education of an effective safety management program. Adheres to radiation safety practices for patients, personnel and self, including principles of time, distance and shielding where possible. Practices proper safety practices when transporting for MRI including utilization of MR safe transportation.
  • Performs functions as directed to assist and support the hospital staff as they focus on the exam of the patients.
  • Greets and escorts patient to imaging department rooms with appropriate dress and valuables secured in a safe place.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities for Temecula Valley Hospital. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to meet age specific needs of the patients groups identified under the Age Specific Standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements/Licenses:

  • Current BLS (AHA) certification required
  • CPI Certification within the first 90 days if also working as a sitter
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous hospital experience preferred
  • 1 year experience with patient care preferred
  • Basic medical terminology preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of good body mechanics
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of team members
  • Displays an aptitude for general office equipment
