Senior Mechanic Air Conditioning and Refrigeration


Purpose:


  • Valkyrie is seeking a Senior Mechanic with a repair background in, Air Conditioning, Food Service, Refrigeration, Scullery and Laundry equipment to join our SEMAT EQOL team based in San Diego, CA.


Job Description:


  • The Senior Mechanic AC&R will provide hands-on maintenance support and conduct maintenance training for shipboard personnel, focusing on the operation, upkeep, and repair of galley, laundry, and mess deck equipment aboard U.S. Navy surface ships.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems supporting galley and mess deck operations aboard U.S. Navy ships.
  • Assists shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and assessment of EQOL systems and equipment, including, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, scullery, and laundry equipment.
  • Instructs Ship's Force personnel in conducting functional checks and operational tests of the systems and equipment onboard.
  • Interfaces directly with shipboard personnel and customers to ensure effective support and training delivery.
  • Provides technical direction and mentorship to team members as required.
  • Oversees subcontractor efforts and ensure alignment with schedule, technical specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Manages one or more simultaneous maintenance jobs, with attention to scope, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Applies expertise in trade-specific tools, equipment, and techniques to perform both standard and complex tasks.
  • Develops and utilize technical documentation including work packages, procedures, test plans, and trip reports.
  • Supports project execution by maintaining schedules, submitting status updates, and briefing customers and leadership.
  • Conducts quality inspections to ensure work meets applicable Navy and company standards.
  • Performs duties beyond primary specialty when needed to support installation or repair tasks.


Qualifications:


  • H.S Diploma, or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Must have at least12 years of experience in the operations, repair, and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion machinery is required including:

    • At least 6 years of experience in a position of supervisory responsibility over a subordinate work force involved in the physical maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment systems.
    • At least 5 years of experience with shipboard propulsion plants or auxiliary machinery equipment and/or nuclear-powered propulsion plants maintenance and repair.
    • At least 1 year experience as a technical instructor.
    • Must have an EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling certification.


  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.


Desired Qualifications:


  • Proven leadership and communication skills, especially in shipboard or field environments is strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with Navy documentation, technical manuals, and controlled work packages is preferred.


Security Requirements:


  • Must have an Active DoD Secret security clearance and the ability to maintain a Secret clearance.


Travel Requirements:


  • No travel required as this job is 100 % onsite.
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:


  • Remaining in a stationary position.

  • Must be able to move objects up to 50 pounds.

Pay Range: $68,640 - $83,200 per year
