Primary Purpose:

The Lumber Group Manager is responsible for driving growth and safeguarding Norfolk Southern's $400M franchise. This role requires a strategic approach to managing and expanding our market share, while ensuring alignment with the company's broader goals and objectives.

Principal Duties:



  • Produces market, revenue, and profit growth by leading and managing NS cross-functional teams to respond to the Lumber accounts' logistics requirements on a national and international basis.
  • Supervises account managers and product managers assigned to the account market groups.
  • Maintain meaningful business relationships with customers.
  • Develops strategy and facilitates sales pipeline execution.
  • Develops understanding of Lumber equipment fleets.
  • Knowledge of forecast systems and projection of forecasts.
  • Identify and advocate for necessary capital investments and service enhancements



Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (MBA, BBA)
Preferred Majors: Business

Knowledge and Skills:



  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel and possess a working knowledge of at least one business intelligence tool (such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.) as it relates to business usage.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize large, complex data sets and provide insights to advance business objectives.
  • Project management skills, strong business acumen and leadership skills, with sound time management and attention-to-detail, and ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
  • Process improvement skills, and project management skills for a cross-functional context.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Ability to develop written and presentation material for broad audiences, and ability to effectively influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Ability to compile and present market and financial data.
  • Ability to establish rapport and relationships with individuals at multiple levels internally and externally.
