Intern, HRBRC
Overview The HRBRC Intern will support a range of projects and initiatives across the Hampton Roads Biomedical Research Consortium's core focus areas, including Community Engagement, Data Science, Commercial Science, and Clinical/Translational Science. This position provides valuable exposure to biomedical research operations and innovation pipelines, offering opportunities to assist with outreach efforts, data collection and analysis, event coordination, administrative support, and communication activities. The intern will work under the supervision of HRBRC staff to support day-to-day functions and strategic initiatives, contributing to meaningful, cross-disciplinary work in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Located at the HRBRC Headquarters in Portsmouth VA (50%), and HRBRC Assembly Space in Norfolk VA (50%) Responsibilities Community Engagement Support: Assist with outreach initiatives, event planning, participant communication, and logistics related to community-facing programs. May help develop and distribute promotional or informational materials. Data Collection and Project Support: Support data-related tasks such as data entry, organization, literature searches, or basic analysis under supervision. May assist with compiling information for ongoing research or evaluation projects. Innovation & Commercialization Support: Provide administrative and coordination support for entrepreneurial, prototyping, or commercialization activities. May include preparing documentation, gathering background research, or helping plan innovation events. Clinical/Translational Science Project Support: Assist with scheduling, note-taking, coordination, or basic research-related tasks for clinical or translational science initiatives. May include helping track project milestones or communicating with partners. General Administrative Tasks: Contribute to office operations, including meeting prep, supply organization, communications assistance, and other duties as assigned that help HRBRC meet its broader mission. Qualifications Accepted to or currently enrolled in a college or university program Experience working in a professional or office setting, including internships, volunteer work, or part-time employment. Demonstrated interest in fields related to community engagement, biomedical research, public health, innovation, or data science. Strong communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with basic productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or project/task tracking platforms). Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment. Location : Location US-VA-Portsmouth |
