The role - what you'll do
Barr is seeking an Equipment Support Technician to join our Edina, Minnesota, team. In this on-site role, you will support the Project Support Services group in playing a critical role supporting Barr's diverse staff of engineers and scientists with their equipment-related needs. You'll use your equipment management skills and mechanical aptitude to help ensure that Barr's engineers and scientists are set up for success and able to perform their jobs safely and efficiently at project sites.
A successful person in this role will be team-focused and desire to work with a variety of different people. They will enjoy working in a hands-on environment and using their equipment-related expertise to help solve problems. This person also has a high degree of self-initiative, with exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills, and a desire to provide outstanding client service to both internal and external clients.
Your impact - key responsibilities
Equipment support: Fulfill equipment and vehicle-related requests using asset/vehicle management platforms. Prepare and ship equipment to project sites and laboratories. Inventory control: Maintain Barr's expendable/consumable supplies and tools and organize warehouse spaces to accommodate equipment and field needs. Equipment maintenance: Troubleshoot, maintain (e.g., minor repairs, install updates), and calibrate equipment to comply with internal quality standards. Identify, tag, and document inspections and calibrations using asset/vehicle management platforms. Environmental-equipment-related knowledge and training: Act as the subject matter expert on all things equipment related, conduct equipment-related orientation, research equipment and PPE options in alignment with project needs and compliance, and collaborate with safety staff. Vehicle and fleet management: Assist with maintenance activities for company vehicles including visual inspections, cleaning, tool inventory, and vendor management.
Compensation: Anticipated range of $25-33 hourly. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This on-site position requires presence in a Barr office, Monday through Friday. Travel requirement: Occasional travel of one to two days every few months. Physical requirements for the role may include moving equipment and other inventory weighing up to 50 pounds and the ability to wear required PPE for equipment-related maintenance. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
About you - required core competencies
Education: Vocational diploma, technical degree, trade certification, associate's degree in a related practice, or equivalent military experience. Experience: Three or more years of relevant experience. Troubleshooting and calibrating equipment in a professional environment.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Software: Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel. Travel: Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to client locations and other Barr offices. Communication: Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different people. Driver's license: Possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
