Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as aClaims Operations Manager!

About the Role

This position will have responsibility for day-to-day execution, both directly and possibly through management of team leaders. This position will also be responsible for defining, further developing, and documenting claim processes and guidelines. In addition, there is accountability for driving definition of the customer experience to be delivered, positioning the organization to deliver that experience through ensuring appropriate management mechanisms are in place, hiring and developing staff, and supporting business growth/sales efforts by presenting our overall value proposition story to prospective customers.

What you will do



  • Ensure appropriate transparency into organizational performance levels through control monitoring, management reporting, etc.
  • Deliver effective and efficient day-to-day execution across all functions.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication with the Legal and Compliance area to ensure that all state and federal regulations are met and that Symetra's claim practices are consistent with the regulations.
  • Support new customer implementation and on-going relationships / communications Complaint resolution and DOI complaint management.
  • Resolve and approve escalated claim payments and expense adjustments.
  • Develop additional business requirements for the claims system.
  • Serve as a lead on claims operation projects and initiatives.
  • Collaboration across the organization to define and document best practices and processes - ensuring alignment with upstream and downstream functions to enable a seamless customer experience.
  • Partner closely with QA, training, and other support organizations to ensure staff are making appropriate claim determinations and providing appropriate answers to claimant/policyholder inquiries.
  • Benchmarking Symetra practices against our key competitors.
  • Provide direction and guidance to team leaders and front line staff as needed.
  • Claim staff recruitment.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication across the organization.
  • Staff development, hiring, mentoring and succession planning.

Compensation

Salary Range:$93,900 - $156,600plus eligibility for annual bonus programs

Who you are



  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years in a claims management role.
  • Life claim management certification preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply contract language.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical disability management terms.
  • Ability to obtain a New York State Adjusters License, as applicable to the role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated level of proficiency with software programs, including Microsoft Office products Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, while adapting and supporting change.
  • Ability to meet or exceed performance expectations as set by clients and Unit.
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing insurance claims managers 10+ years claims experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent people development skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects.
  • High school diploma required.



Travel:



  • Required Training & Professional Development
    All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
