What you will accomplish as a Quality Engineer at TAPCO

The Quality Engineers' primary responsibility is to determine production standards for TAPCO's products by establishing testing and inspection processes. The Quality Engineer will work closely with New Product Development to ensure that new designs are properly validated to ensure proper performance to specification. The Quality Engineer will also monitor, verify and report on product configurations; to ensure manufacturing processes meet company and customer requirements; and to conduct internal quality audits on all functions of TAPCO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement methods to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products and production equipment

  • Investigate cases and customer returns to determine root cause and develop corrective action.

  • Monitors departmental goals and objectives and recommends changes for improvement and /or recognizes success.

  • Leads activities surrounding the corrective/preventive action system by performing risk analysis, administering corrective actions, guides teams in root-cause investigations, collaborates on resolutions, and sees preventive measures through implementation.

  • Oversees the document life cycle by ensuring all documents are updated with the latest revision, ensures proper distribution of records, performs the reconciliation process, and ensures proper removal of obsolete materials from the Quality Management Systems.

  • Leads activities that maintain and improve product quality by completing surveillance audits including material inspections.

  • Contributes to activities surrounding Regulatory Affairs which back governing approvals, state by state, for the traffic control industry.

  • Works with Quality Manager to develop, implement, manage and integrate the Quality Management System (QMS) into TAPCO's business units.

  • Partners with cross-functional teams to achieve business deliverables related to facility change controls, documents and records.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Knowledge/ Skills/Ability

  • Experience in the fundamentals of supporting the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and strong knowledge of business intelligence software.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards such as ISO, ASTM, IEEE, NIST (or similar).
  • Working knowledge of process improvement tools such as root cause analysis and Process/Design FMEA and the PDCA Model.
  • Capable of reading blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams; have a solid understanding of basic electrical and mechanical controls.
  • Detailed knowledge related to Risk Management processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamworking, problem solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to handle stress is a high paced environment.
  • Capable of shifting priorities to support business needs.
  • Proven record organizational and customer service skill.
  • Be tactful and have persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in multitasking while keeping a high attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor's Degree in a science or business-related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years' quality related experience.
  • Experience with Technical Writing.
  • Experience utilizing quality tools in an ERP or MRP system.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills on a supervisory level.
  • Proven organizational skill, communication skill, and customer service skill.
