Job Description

Kansas City Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Head Coach of Women's Basketball. Kansas City Athletics is Kansas City's only Division I team.

This role's primary duties are:

  • Assist in coaching, scouting, and recruitment of student athletes. This includes evaluating their performance in both practice and competition and providing leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies.
  • Monitor the conditioning and training of student-athletes in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coaches and athletic training.
  • Assist with the development of schedules for practice and competition and assist in the planning and administering the off-season training program.
  • Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, to include consulting with the appropriate Directors, Associate and Assistant Directors of Athletics and other university administrators to resolve problems. Advise and counsel student-athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponent teams and assist in designing game plans and strategies.
  • Attend coaches' preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Participate in public relations activities, as approved, to include attending press conferences and making public appearances. Represent the department at professional, civic, charitable, fundraising events.
  • Travel to games, and attend and participate in team practices
  • other duties as assigned by Head Coach or Athletics Director
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Two to three years of intercollegiate basketball coaching experience in one or more areas of athlete development/administration/team recruitment for basketball or personal performance and achievement in basketball in combination with relevant life experiences which coaching ability can be effectively projected.

Recruiting ability required.

Must be able to follow the requirements of the NCAA, the Summit League and the mission of UMKC.

Must be able to communicate effectively and foster positive relations with prospective and enrolled student-athletes, fellow coaches, athletics and university administration and the general public; and have a clear understanding of the role of athletics within the university community.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$60,500 to $68,000 commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.

Full-time, benefit eligible. Some nights and weekends required.
