Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.

N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear Inc. and BWX Technologies, joined by our critical subcontractors Longenecker and Associates and Tech2 Solutions.

Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Position Summary

Supports the N3B CH-TRU organization in the management, storage, and movement of freight and equipment to meet program and project deliverables.

Ensures that all material shipping activities performed by N3B are executed compliantly with all applicable requirements, laws, and regulations.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the Company.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate the receipt of on-site shipments at the TA54 receiving locations
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of shipments and account for the material via Costpoint.
  • Transport and deliver material to support CH-TRU projects and operations.
  • Maintain records and correspondence consistent with company procedures.
  • Operate material handling equipment to include forklifts, reach trucks, and freight vehicles.
  • Able to transport hazardous material including chemicals and compressed gases.
  • Compile, store, and retrieve organizational data using computer and company database systems. *
  • Interface with customers, regulators and public stakeholders on organizational matters.
  • Material management to ensure accountability and inventory accuracy. Track issuances and relay data to the Material Management Systems Coordinator and Designated Procurement Representatives.
  • Assist with CH-TRU Quality Assurance receipt inspections.
  • Control the receipt, storage, and issuance of waste containers per N3B policy.
  • Oversee daily tool room and tool watch operations.
  • Other duties as identified by the CH-TRU Logistics Manager

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • Experience in documentation and maintenance of records for inventory receipt and control.
  • Work experience in a quality-oriented environment requiring a high degree of attention to detail
  • Knowledge/awareness level of DOT shipping regulations
  • Ability to work within established policies and procedures, using independent judgement, ingenuity, and integrity.
  • Familiar with handling and/or transporting a variety of freight including chemicals and hazardous material.
  • Experience working in a team environment with a strong safety culture
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
  • DOT/HMPT Qualified Shipper/Broker

Education and Experience Required:

Level 2: Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline plus at least 3 years of experience; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable. Additionally, must have 1 year job related experience per DOE O 426.2.

Level 3: Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline plus at least 6 years of experience with a NMDOT Class-A CDL; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable. Additionally, must have 1 year job related experience per DOE O 426.2.

Business Associations:

Level 2: Frequent internal company and external contacts. Represents organization on specific projects.

Level 3: Represents organization as a prime contact on contracts or projects. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Impact:

Level 2: Contribute to the completion of organizational projects and goals. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to rectify.

Level 3: Exerts some influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve objectives would normally have a serious effect upon the administration of the organization.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to operate a wide range of forklifts and material movement equipment. Field work may be performed in moderate outdoor weather conditions.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Transportation Logistics Specialist will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L level Department of Energy security clearance.
