About the Job

The Department of Psychology within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota seeks applicants for a 9-month Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar position beginning Fall Semester 2025 (8/25/25). This is a 100%-time appointment as a postdoctoral associate (Job Code 9546) over the academic year (late August 2025 - May 2026). The opportunity to teach a class in Summer 2026 may be available. The position may be renewed based on funding, departmental need, and job performance.

At the University of Minnesota, postdoctoral associates are academic employees who conduct research, teach, or provide service that enhances career skills or allows for opportunities to learn new research or teaching techniques. They are trained by and work in conjunction with a faculty mentor who determines the training agenda.

The goal of the 2025-2026 Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar position in the Department of Psychology is to provide advanced training in teaching courses within the quantitative methods area. The training experience is intended to competitively position the Teaching Scholar for future employment in teaching-focused colleges and universities.

80% Instruction:
Responsibilities include teaching four courses over the academic year, likely two courses in fall semester and in spring semester. This assignment may include teaching the same courses in different semesters. Final teaching will be determined in consultation with the Associate Chair for Curriculum & Instruction. The incumbent will also engage in training and career development activities, as well as research activities, as determined in consultation with a faculty mentor.

Successful candidates must demonstrate the potential to teach some of the following classes in the graduate and undergraduate curricula and/or similar classes, either in an in-person or online modality:
* Quantitative and Psychometric Methods
* Multivariate Statistics
* Measurement/Quantification
* Intro to Psychological Data Analysis/Statistics
* Intro to Psych Research Methods
* Psy 5993 Research Lab in Psychology

20% Statistics Readiness Content Development:

The incumbent will also develop a non-credit Canvas course or similar with a statistics pre-test and related materials for pre-stats testing, training and support for incoming graduate students.

The position requires expertise in the subject fields related to courses taught and evidence of excellence in teaching and research in higher education settings. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

Qualifications

All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by the start date of the appointment (8/25/2025).

Applicants will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, evidence of teaching ability, and overall fit with a candidate's long-term career goals.

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 46 core faculty, 70+ staff, 120 graduate students, and it supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the department has $40 million or more in active research funding at any given time (the majority from NIH), spread across 70 or more projects. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $45,000-$50,000 prorated for a 9-month appointment and depending on qualifications and experience.
