Position Description:

As a Clinical Physics Assistant, you will serve as a professional contributor to the Medical Physics group within the Department of Radiation Oncology, with supervision requirements and scope of work aligned with guidelines established by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Medical Physics Practice Guidelines Report 10a and AAPM Policy AP-131-A. Medical physics tasks performed shall be reviewed and co-signed by a Qualified Medical Physicist.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced knowledge with the acceptance, commissioning, routine quality assurance, and post-service clinical verification of new and existing radiation oncology imaging and delivery devices. Activities may include defining beam characteristics, baseline data collection, treatment planning system data configuration, and end-to-end validation.
  • Collaborate with a qualified Medical Physicist to perform patient-specific measurements, dose calculations, and data analysis. Measurements may include using equipment such as ionization chambers, electrometers, film, flat panel detectors, and other dosimetric devices.
  • Collect and analyze quality assurance measurements and document results according to established policies and procedures. Assist with maintenance of equipment and routine quality assurance records required for APEx accreditation.
  • Contribute to the refinement or development of new quality assurance programs and procedures and clinical protocols and workflows to meet clinical demands. Generate documentation for new processes and procedures.
  • Integrate in the introduction of new technologies, quality assurance equipment, and routine equipment management tasks into clinical practice as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the successful execution of clinical trial studies including collecting, collating, and analyzing basic research data and assisting with clinical trial protocol development.
  • Conducts literature reviews relevant to machine quality assurance procedures and techniques, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities.
  • Exercise professional discretion in identifying concerns and recommend solutions to leadership.
  • Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations.
Knowledge Skills Abilities
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attention to detail required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and situational awareness.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist and closely follow established procedures.
  • Intermediate computer literacy required along with ability to learn new domain-specific software.
  • Proficiency in computer programming (Python, MATLAB, Java, C++) preferred.
