The Commercial Loan Closer is responsible for ensuring loans originated in CBUD are closed in accordance with the loan approval documents and the Bank's Loan Underwriting and Administration Guidelines (LUAG). The loan closer is accountable for identifying, requesting, reviewing, analyzing and completing required due diligence to satisfy the credit approval and/or LUAG; Request and/or review required commercial loan documentation for both real estate and non-real estate loans; Perform duties associated with exception tracking and uploading of information to the loan origination system; This position will be the key focal point of communication and pro-actively interacts with internal and external customers; Assemble loan closing packages, credit files and ensure that disbursements are completed accurately and loan funds are balanced under minimal supervision and using established guidelines.
- Act as a liaison for unresolved issues between Business Banking Officers, Commercial Loan Officers, and other areas of the Bank
- Analyze and interpret the credit approval to determine borrower, collateral and guarantor documentation requirements
- Review and utilize conditions set to determine due diligence requirements
- Order appraisals and environmental reports and/or collect required due diligence items such as entity/organizational documents, loan payoff letters, flood determination, proof of insurance, etc.
- Timely follow up and management of incoming and outstanding items from borrower, legal counsel and/or loan officer
- Facilitate communication throughout the process with all parties
- Request internally prepared loan documentation or engage with outside counsel for externally prepared loan documentation for all new loans, modifications and renewals
- Review all loan documentation to ensure all terms and conditions have been satisfied prior to closing and that all documentation satisfies approval conditions, policies, procedures and any and all regulatory requirements
- Take appropriate remedial action to resolve deficiencies and escalate questions/disputes to appropriate management level when necessary
- Upload loan information to loan origination system accurately and timely
- Monitor, track and follow up on all post-closing and document exceptions
- Serve as a back-up for other CBUD colleagues
- Document any missing or clear any collateral/documentation exceptions for all loans and seek approval from approval officers and managers
- Review and validate any compliance reporting data such as HMDA and CRA.
- Prepare accurate information and customer communication as needed for any Adverse Action taken for CBUD loans.
- Create accurate and organized loan files, both physical and electronically
- Participate in any required department training sessions or meetings.
- Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
- Complete other duties and special projects as assigned or requested.
Education, Certification, License and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Minimum of 1-2 years of banking experience
- Prior commercial loan documentation experience preferred
- Prior loan closing experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical closing deadlines
- Ability to understand Bank policies and procedures
- Strong personal computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work efficiently and effectively
- Appropriately escalate issues requiring problem solving and decision making. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Responsible for knowing and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines, as detailed in policies as they pertain to the position.
