About the Position:

National Grid is seeking Temporary Gas Meter Mechanic A at our Liverpool location, at a starting hourly rate of $32.55.

Under direct supervision in a Meter Shop to perform general maintenance, testing and handling operations on gas meters as follows: wash, leak test, open, paint, sort incoming meters, seal and tag out-going meters, retire obsolete meters or regulators, ship and receive metering equipment, operate fork lift and other lifting equipment and to assist Gas Meter Mechanics of a higher classification.Perform general cleaning and housekeeping, including periodic checks and general maintenance of Gas Meter equipment; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Should possess mechanical ability.
  • Successful completion of accredited courses in mathematics through Elementary Algebra or an equivalent course agreed upon by Management and the Brotherhood (Transcript will be required for proof).
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass validated aptitude test
  • Ability to follow prescribed laboratory procedures, practices, and standards
  • Ability to learn and operate department computer systems, including databases
  • Ability to lift at least 40lbs

NOTE: After satisfactory completion of one year as a Gas Meter Mechanic A, the employee will be promoted to a Gas Meter Mechanic B upon meeting the qualifications and successful completion of Gas Meter Mechanic B school.

Salary:

  • $32.55/Hr

Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
