POSITION SUMMARY:

Watts Water Technologies is seeking a skilled and motivated Master Machinist - Tool & Die to join our manufacturing team at our Woodland, CA facility. This role is ideal for candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on machining experience, and a passion for producing high-precision components. Whether you're entry-level with vocational training or an experienced machinist seeking a dynamic environment, this position offers career growth, technical development, and exposure to advanced machining operations.

As a Master Machinist, you will support the production of custom tooling, prototype parts, and high-tolerance components essential to our manufacturing process. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with critical thinking skills and the ability to consistently meet precise dimensional specifications while upholding a strong commitment to safety and quality.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with engineering to produce prototypes, first-article components, and custom tooling.
  • Execute complex setups for machining components to precise tolerances using manual machine tools.
  • Inspect and verify all machined parts against specifications and adjust setups as necessary.
  • Modify or rework components to support production needs and design revisions.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain tooling and equipment in optimal condition, reporting any maintenance needs.
  • Document production data and machine settings for repeatability and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and support junior machinists and apprentices to develop shop floor capabilities.
  • Comply with all safety, environmental, and quality protocols.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Support the development and execution of long-term CI strategy tailored to business needs.
  • Designing and reverse-engineering damaged die components and fixtures.

Minimum Required Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in manual machining techniques, including lathe, mill, and drill press operations
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications
  • Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators
  • Understanding of various materials and their machining characteristics (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, tool steel, brass, and plastics)
  • Basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance capabilities for machine tools
  • Familiarity with shop math, including decimals, fractions, and geometry relevant to machining
  • Familiarity with Die Design & Formed

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and collaborate across departments

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited machining program, trade school, or technical certification strongly preferred.
  • Associate degree in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field is a plus

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Tool & Die, and high-precision machining.
  • Deep knowledge of machine tool operation, material behavior, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proven ability to perform complex setups and hold tight tolerances.
  • Experience with custom or prototype machining in a regulated industry.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Compensation: $31-$40 hour

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION:

This position will collaborate extensively with site leadership, engineering team and cross-functional teams but does not have direct reports.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision tasks.
  • Tolerance to manufacturing conditions, including noise, oil, and temperature variation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work performed in an office and manufacturing environment.
  • May occasionally perform duties outside typical office settings, including production areas.
