Position Summary
The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs is responsible for the oversight and coordination of faculty affairs, faculty grievance and conflict resolution, as well as faculty and academic leadership development under the Office for Academic Affairs (OAA).
Detailed Position Information
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* oversee annual, retention, and promotion review processes
* manage COACH exit and retention survey program
* manage sabbaticals approvals process
* analyze faculty productivity
* work with HR on faculty leave and benefits
* work with Compliance and ORED on external activities approvals
* advise faculty members on conflicts and grievances
* support Grievance & Mediation Committee
* work with Faculty Ombudspersons and Informal Mediation Services to resolve complaints
* oversee faculty coaching program
* oversee faculty development and recognition programs
* oversee new faculty orientation
* manage faculty standards of SACSCOC
* oversee internal leadership development programs (LeadershipU, Department Chairs Consortium, Early Leaders Program)
* oversee SECALDP
* manage Provost's Faculty Fellows program
* meet regularly with associate deans for faculty (or college equivalents)
Minimum Qualifications
* Tenured Full Professor at The University of Alabama
* Broad familiarity with the academic programs and governance structures across all colleges and schools
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, students, and external stakeholders
* Strong organizational and leadership skills
* Experience applying qualitative and quantitative methods in policy development
* Demonstrated service on university-level standing committees
* Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive issues involving students and faculty
Preferred Qualifications
* Successful academic leadership at the department chair, associate dean, or equivalent administrative level
* Experience in strategic planning and academic resource allocation
* Familiarity with accreditation, program review, or institutional effectiveness practices
