Azure Cloud Architect

What you will be doing:

Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure. This role focuses on modern data architectures-including lakehouse designs-and data integration using tools like Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, and Spark Notebooks. Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful data solutions and drive cloud innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility #1 - Cloud Architecture Design and Implementation - 35%

  • Design and deploy Azure-based data architectures including Medallion Architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers)

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-effective using Azure services

  • Integrate Spark Notebooks in Microsoft Fabric for advanced analytics and distributed processing

Responsibility #2 - Data Pipeline Development and Automation - 25%

  • Build and orchestrate ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory

  • Automate workflows and data integration across hybrid/multi-cloud environments

  • Leverage Power Query for transformation and preparation of data for analytics

Responsibility #3 - Governance, Security & Compliance - 15%

  • X Enforce security best practices including RBAC, encryption, and regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR)

  • Manage identity access control and establish governance frameworks

  • Monitor and support cloud environments using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights

Responsibility #4 - DevOps, IaC & Cost Optimization - 15%

  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform

  • Deploy CI/CD pipelines via Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions

  • Apply cost-saving strategies like autoscaling, right-sizing, and tagging

Responsibility #5 - Team Collaboration and Leadership - 10%

  • Work with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver business-aligned solutions

  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and promote best practices in cloud architecture

  • Lead architectural reviews and recommend improvements to existing systems

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

Years of Applicable Experience - 7 or more years

Education:

Bachelors (Required)

Required Certifications/Licensing

  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert preferred

  • Azure Data Engineer Associate preferred

  • Microsoft Fabric Engineer (or equivalent) preferred

Preferred Qualifications

Skills:

  • Azure services: Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric

  • Data engineering and pipeline automation using Azure-native tools

  • Advanced use of Spark Notebooks, Power BI, and Power Query

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Bicep, ARM, Terraform

  • Strong SQL (relational and NoSQL) and data modeling skills

  • Cloud security, identity management, and regulatory compliance

  • CI/CD deployment pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)

Experience:

  • Designing and implementing Medallion Architecture in Azure

  • Leading large-scale cloud data architecture projects

  • Working in hybrid or multi-cloud environments

  • Cost optimization in Azure cloud platforms

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred)

Working Conditions: Remote Travel Requirements: Travel 1-20% within the US Physical Demands: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves remaining stationary most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if movement is required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $99,000 - $185,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
