We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Bridge Inspector to lead and perform inspections of bridges and related structures to ensure safety, compliance, and structural integrity. This role involves planning, coordinating, and conducting field inspections, preparing detailed reports, and providing technical guidance to junior staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil or structural engineering, with extensive knowledge of bridge inspection standards and practices.
Primary Functions
- Lead and conduct routine, in-depth, and special inspections of bridges, culverts, and related structures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NBIS).
- Evaluate structural conditions and identify potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, including photographs, sketches, and condition assessments.
- Coordinate inspection schedules and logistics with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and as-built drawings.
- Utilize inspection tools and technologies, including drones, ultrasonic testing, and bridge management software.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior inspectors and engineering staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers on repair recommendations and rehabilitation strategies.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 10+ years of bridge inspection experience.
- Certification as a National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) Team Leader required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Proficiency in inspection software (e.g., AASHTOWare Bridge Management, Bentley InspectTech).
- Strong knowledge of bridge design, construction, and maintenance practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for field assignments.
Desired Education
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Work Environment
This position involves both office and field work. Fieldwork may include working at heights, over water, and in remote locations. Occasional night or weekend work may be required.
