Each year, over 30,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty healthcare, expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from the
CVM, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine. |
Essential Job Duties |
The position requires in-depth knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and management of equine soft tissue and emergency surgical diseases and post-operative care. The candidate must be an American College of Veterinary Surgeons (
ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (
ECVS) diplomate or eligible to take the
ACVS phase II examination or
ECVS certification examination. The candidate should possess surgical expertise in soft tissue and emergency surgical procedures and will bring innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to complement and enhance existing expertise in Equine soft tissue surgery and Emergency services. The incumbent must be an effective communicator and teacher, provide state-of-the-art care to patients and clients, build positive and collaborative relationships with referring veterinarians, and further develop the caseload.
The person in this role will be responsible for didactic and clinical teaching of veterinary students, as well as teaching, mentoring, and advising of house officers. They will be a productive, collegial, and active member of the Equine soft tissue surgery service. The candidate will interact frequently with the Equine Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Food Animal and Radiology Services. Participation in collaborative research and contribution to NC State and regional research is expected. A strong commitment to teamwork and contributing to a collegial, collaborative clinical environment is essential. |
Other Responsibilities |
- Additional responsibilities will include participation in a day and nighttime emergency service.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
DVM or equivalent degree required.- Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons or European College of Veterinary Surgeons or eligible to take the Phase II ACVS examination or ECVS certification examination.

- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications |
- American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) Diplomate status.
- 3-5 years ACVS or ECVS Diplomate Experience.
