JOB TITLE:
SER Research Professional II - Stratigrapher
JOB PURPOSE:
Work under the guidance of the SER Research Professional III, Program Manager, Center Director(s), or Senior Director of Research on applied energy research to yield energy-driven economic development for Wyoming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake applied research related to subject matter expertise.
- Engage in a positive manner to have a positive impact on the performance and morale of SER staff, interaction with SER stakeholders, and the applicability and overall quality of the school.
- Participate in discussions, oral presentations, and publications focused on practical methods for improving energy production in Wyoming.
- Serve as a principal investigator and manage smaller research projects, usually less than $1 million in funding.
- Participate as a task lead on large projects.
- Substantially contribute to proposal preparation, including leading the preparation of some proposals.
- May, on a project by project, case by case basis, provide supervision or mentoring to other members of SER staff and stakeholders.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required to perform the essential duties of this position.
- Utilization of a variety of data to determine stratigraphic frameworks that assist in assessing oil and gas reservoirs, critical mineral associations, and/or carbon storage/EOR potential
- Help to support and organize data collection, monitor and assess data quality, and ensure input and maintenance of relevant databases
- Help to oversee data collection, monitor data quality, and maintain and ensure input into relevant databases
- Provide scientific inputs to field projects and other applied scientific endeavors
- Work closely with CEGR and School of Energy Resources staff, stakeholders, collaborators, and industry stakeholders on applied energy studies
- Employ relevant petrophysical and stratigraphic software to facilitate the highest quality output
- Provide stratigraphic expertise to assess and develop basin models using geotechnical data such as well log and field observations
- Aid in the preparation of scientific reports and publications

- Experience with evaluating and incorporating subsurface and geophysical data to geologic property models
- Knowledge of stratigraphic and petrophysical data analysis tools and/or geologic modeling software
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Physicist, Geochemist, Economist, Data/GIS/Computer Science, Visualization, social sciences related to energy development, etc.), plus at least 3 years of direct job experience.
Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the
University Vehicle Use Policy

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- MS or PhD degree, or equivalent experience in geophysics, petrophysics, or similar field
- Experience working on stratigraphic analysis and characterization
- Familiarity with basin modeling and associated programs such as Petrel and petrophysical software (Techlog, Geolog, etc.)
- Experience in field work sampling and analysis
- Experience working on applied energy projects
- Experience working with commercial geophysical software
- Experience writing scientific publications and/or technical reports
- Experience working in Rocky Mountain basins
