Sheet Metal Mechanic
Purpose:
- Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a Sheet Metal Mechanic who will be key in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal products and equipment, such as vent ducting, compartment partitions, stowage, and counter spaces.
- The job is located in Norfolk Virginia.
Job Description:
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines including shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal.
- Shapes metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer.
- Sets up and operates soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.
- Smooths seams, joints, or burred surfaces using files and portable grinder or buffer.
- Installs assemblies according to blueprints, engineering sketches, written instructions or manuals.
- Inspects assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments including calipers, scales, and micrometer.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced staff members.
Qualifications:
- Must have High school diploma or Trade School or equivalent with at least 3 years of related experience.
- Must have at least 3 years of related sheet-metal fabrication experience.
- Must have experience with confined spaces.
Desired Qualifications:
- Have an active OSHA 10HR Certification
- Have or can obtain a passport
- Have experience with installation of Berthing and Heads
Security Requirements:
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards and naval installations
Travel Requirements:
- Moderate Travel Required up to 50%
- If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
- Repetitive motion, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Picking, Grasping, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity (depth perception).
- Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions (affect the respiratory system), frequently work in close quarters and/or function in narrow aisles or passageways (areas that could cause claustrophobia).
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.

Pay Range: $23 - $28 per hour
