The Associate Director (AD), Global Medical Affairs Training and Education is responsible for the planning and execution of Global Medical Affairs/MSL training and continued education plans related to Eisai's marketed products, pipeline agents, collaborations, and competitors. The AD designs the strategies and tactics for Global Medical Affairs training and education in collaboration with global and regional medical directors and MSL leadership, Publications, Medical Communications, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Field HEOR, Patient Advocacy, and other functional leads to align training/education activities as well as congress activities. The position serves as a functional lead on cross functional launch planning and other strategic initiatives for Oncology Medical Affairs. The AD will also continually support and update internal educational resources and tools via the Eisai Medical Affairs College. The AD conducts innovative and customized Global training and education sessions to prepare medical affairs personnel to enter strategic and compliant discussions regarding medical/clinical data on Eisai products. The AD assumes a leadership role by assisting with various innovative projects and by teaching, coaching and mentoring MSLs to assist with their onboarding and continued development. In addition, the position will support global MSL teams as needed by providing continuing oncology education and supporting insight collection and exchange by establishing training and mentoring standards and a global MSL insight forum. The AD also appropriately collaborates with external alliance partners on essential training and education programs. This role creates an environment of accountability by communicating expectations, timelines and critical priorities for scientific training. The position fosters collaboration and communication between global and regional medical affairs teams to ensure alignment via appropriate oversight regarding the sharing of resources, reports, education, and needs.

Essential Functions

Advance Medical and Scientific Knowledge of the Global Medical Team (45%)

  • Lead Global MSL continuing education initiatives including treatment landscape training (disease state and Eisai product data, pre-clinical data, experiential training, "special topics" training, and launch/pre-launch training); patient journey; new stakeholder training including KOLs and DOLs, and emerging digital tools and platforms.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of an omnichannel strategy for global MA/MSL training that is personalized, integrated with Eisai systems, and data-driven.
  • Support new hire MSLs scientific training via didactic and coaching sessions, utilizing full curriculum modules, FAQs, reading guides, etc (note: region and need dependent; does not include USMA).
  • Provide additional non-didactic and soft-skills training (e.g. medical insights workshops, presentation skills, understanding clinical trial design, statistics, etc.) to supplement MSL development.
  • Collaborate with Digital Strategy & Innovation lead on global MSL insights sharing forums.
  • Collate, prepare, and disseminate Congress Reports, Advisory Board Reports, and strategic Insights Reports to Eisai US and Global Medical Affairs organization.

Strengthen Medical Affairs proficiency and demonstrate strategic and cross-functional partnerships (35%)

  • Support Congress activities by working closely with Global and Regional Medical Directors and MSL managers. Develop congress abstract tracker, assign MSL coverage, review MSL reporting responsibilities, collate and distribute Congress Report, execute pre- and post-congress educational sessions.
  • Maintain and update the Eisai Medical Affairs College platform to ensure a centralized location for internal medical training content. Train new hires on EMAC organization/utilization.
  • Provide input into and collaborate with regional and global medical leads on medical affairs driven external education strategic initiatives including global independent medical education and symposia.
  • Work with strategic planning & operations to manage the Global MSL projects budget by forecasting & prioritizing projects to assist with internal training and appropriate scientific exchange.

Maintain scientific credibility and ensure operational excellence (20%)

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, and to ensure compliance with Eisai policies & standard operating procedures.
  • Self-study to ensure scientific credibility of existing and new therapeutic areas and cancer types.
  • Enhance opportunities to engage with KOLs as part of self-study.
  • Maintain Process Guides and other resources.
  • Continue partnership with the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS)
  • Maintain training records.
  • Conduct learning needs assessments and implement measures to analyze and assess effectiveness of training and continuously update accordingly.

Requirements

  • Advanced terminal degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in medical/biosciences.
  • Minimum of 5 years of oncology disease management knowledge in the therapeutic areas of interest to Eisai.
  • Minimum of 5 years Medical Affairs/MSL experience in the therapeutic areas of interest to Eisai.
  • Must have thorough knowledge and experience within Eisai desired therapeutic area(s); comfortable and confident speaking about multiple drug indications/disease state management and competitor products and data.
  • Understanding and ability to effectively communicate the role and value provided by Medical Science Liaisons and Medical & Scientific Affairs.
  • A growth mindset willing to experiment with adopting new technologies, including AI platforms and automation tools
  • Strong collaborative nature to effectively work with cross functional and matrix teams.
  • Strong broad based scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge, as well as excellent presentation and teaching skills.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging trends in digital innovation and technologies in medical affairs and the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong overall written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and teach team members without a direct reporting relationship.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze situations and achieve goals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (Domestic & International).

Eisai Salary Transparency Language:

The base salary range for the Associate Director, Global Medical Affairs Training and Education is from :165,400-217,000 Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in : Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan & Eisai Inc. Long Term Incentive Plan.

Final pay determinations will depend on various factors including but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, and skills.
