Overview

Southern Cancer Center is hiring a Medical Assistant (MA) - Clinical Support Role for a Physician at Springhill Hospital.

Scope:
Under the direct supervision of a physician or licensed clinician, the Medical Assistant (MA) provides essential clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient patient care and workflow within the practice. This role involves assisting with examinations and procedures, maintaining exam rooms, managing patient records, and supporting communication between patients and the care team. The MA upholds the standards of the US Oncology Compliance Program, including adherence to the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, treatment areas, and physician offices.
  • Record vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication updates prior to each visit.
  • Prepare and maintain exam and treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adequate supplies.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and minor procedures as directed.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections under the supervision of an RN or physician.
  • Retrieve and organize patient records and documentation needed for appointments or procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred.
  • Must meet any applicable state-specific certification requirements.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing and walking; ability to assist with patient handling.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination required for clinical tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Normal vision and hearing (corrected if necessary) required.
Work Environment:
  • Clinical setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and medical preparations.
