The Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle Operations & Reporting supervises the daily functions of the revenue cycle including claim submission, payment posting, collections, denial management, and accounts receivables. This position is also works collaboratively with the EHR team to enhance revenue cycle workflows. The Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle Operations & Reporting is responsible for producing reporting via EPIC/Axium to monitor revenue cycle performance indicators including charge lag, denial rates, collections and accounts receivables.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:
  • In conjunction with the Director of Revenue Cycle Operations & Reporting, develops recommendations for improvement through the development and analysis of revenue cycle metrics.
  • Coordinates with IT or EHR support teams (e.g., Epic, Axium) to optimize revenue cycle workflows.

Policy & Process Development:
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate documentation, coding, and billing.
  • Work with Program Directors, Clinic Directors and Department Heads to setup standardized revenue cycle operation plans, including a feedback loop for resident/faculty requirements and progress.

Training Programs:
  • Assist in the implementation of a formalized training program for front desk staff within the realms of check-in processes including referral, eligibility, prior authorization, collection of payment, and scheduling within the EHR
  • Assist in training of various staff including but not limited to Clinic Directors, Clinic Managers, Dental Unit Coordinators.

Insurance:
  • Conduct analysis of various elements of dental insurance reimbursement methodology and design proper follow up procedures to optimize accuracy/ efficiency for billing done by the UIC College of Dentistry.
  • Assist in the credentialing of dental and medical providers for Dental insurance plans including both Medicaid and private insurance.
  • Responsible for maintaining the COD credentialing roster including onboarding and offboarding and recredentialing providers.

Reporting:
  • Produce reporting via EPIC/Axium to monitor revenue cycle performance including charge lag, denial rates, collections and accounts receivables.
  • Reconcile reports, noting apparent errors or inconsistencies on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Identify need and assist with implementation of automated systems to increase efficiencies and monitor compliance with administrative procedures based on college protocols.
  • Conducts reimbursement audits and corrective action plans to maintain regulatory and payer requirements.
  • Collaborates with Clinic Managers and Department heads to conduct annual fee studies in collaboration with The Office of Clinical Affairs.

Supervision:
  • Supervise dental billing revenue cycle team, to ensure timely claim submission, payment posting, maximize collections and minimize denials.
  • Supervise dental billing revenue cycle team to ensure proper cash handling protocols are upheld per the University of Illinois guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource for resolving complex billing or reimbursement issues
  • Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) proficiency in using the Axium Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to support clinical revenue cycle functions, including reporting, billing, credentialing, workflow optimization, and compliance monitoring.


(Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Healthcare Information Management, Public Health, Business Administration Finance
    or closely related field required.
  • Minimum of five years (60 months) of responsible administrative experience comparable to the Health Care Administrator series.
  • Minimum of two years (24 months) of directly managing staff.
  • Knowledge of databases, query reporting, and report development; ability to convert abstract concepts into manageable analytic approaches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Suite, Vizio and Axium.
  • RHIA certification.
  • EPIC Experience
  • Axium Experience
