Under general supervision, prepares billing forms for presentation to third-party payers or the preparation of vouchers for the direct payment of bills. Assists with charge capture, reconciliation, claims processing, and related business functions of the center.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for insurance processing and related billing functions
  • Develops, implements, interprets, revises and enforces policies and procedures related to billing and business functions.
  • Assists with the establishment and monitors performance standards related to billing/business function quality and timeliness.
  • Completes insurance claim forms (simple to complex), identifies appropriate procedural and diagnostic coding (as needed) in consultation with providers.
  • Oversees the data entry (registration, charge capture, etc.) processes, including reconciliation/ correction, and related documentation.
  • Performs insurance verification and pre-authorization for services.
  • Consults with providers, patients and insurance companies/other third party payors related to claims denials or requests for additional information.
  • Responds to inquiries related to insurance, billing, and business functions.
  • Assists other staff members with billing/business operations questions.
  • Troubleshoots data entry and billing problems.
  • Assists with the establishment and monitors performance standards related to billing/business function quality and timeliness.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:


    1. Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months), from the categories below:

    A. College coursework in a health-related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
    • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
    • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

    B. Work experience in a healthcare environment working independently with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and prior authorizations.
