Job Description

The Hazardous Waste and Materials Management Technician is responsible for direct day to day management all hazardous/nonhazardous wastes and recyclables from the production environment including but not limited to management of solid and hazardous wastes, metals recycling, spill response, coordination and management of vendors, management of facility SDS, chemical inventories, daily forklift operation, and area ownership/housekeeping of facility central waste accumulation area.

Essential Job Functions


  • Collect, dump general manufacturing trash and recycling across facility daily through use of forklift, hoppers, cans etc.
  • Collect metal dust byproduct for recycling/disposal from facility dust collectors daily
  • Complete all controlled and Hazardous Waste program tasks onsite taking directions from and reporting program status and operation to the EHS Manager including daily collection and processing of any controlled/hazardous/universal/otherwise specialty wastes
  • Act as a first responder to any chemical/oil/water spills/releases for the facility
  • Coordinate external EHS service contractors/work at the discretion of the EHS Manager including but not limited to the hazardous/specialty waste hauling, MSW waste and recyclables hauling/processing via communication with contractors/vendors
  • Maintain the site SDS database including completing yearly sitewide chemical inventory, chemical profile updates, etc.
  • Complete various site daily/weekly/monthly/yearly EHS inspections/audits as directed by the EHS Manager
  • Maintain and drive progress towards completion of various EHS related projects as directed by the EHS manager
  • Complete additional EHS tasks as directed by the EHS manager.
  • Support shipping and logistics with truck loading and unloading as needed as directed by EHS manager


Requirements

  • Please note: This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR), as such, applicants must be a U.S. person defined as a citizen, national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, person granted asylee status in the U.S., or person admitted into the U.S. as a refugee.
  • High School Degree or GED minimum, College or professional certifications preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Degree or accreditation preferred.
  • Strong background in waste/hazardous waste management and /or EHS preferred
  • Previous Fork Truck experience preferred
  • Must be willing to operate powered industrial trucks; associate will be required to pass the Forklift License Program.
  • Ability to work on a team, as well as independently
  • Ability to read charts and document numbers
  • Hazardous /controlled waste handling experience preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred but ability to be trained if no experience
  • Ability to support a 24/7 on call status in conjunction with EHS Manager for any site emergency relating to waste management, fire system or spill response with the ability to be onsite within 3 hours of an emergency call.
  • Ability to identify near-term & long-term opportunities
  • Ability to understand complex problems and create and implement solutions
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with customers/stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

The work environment and physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.

The performance of this position requires exposure to a typical manufacturing environment that requires the use of personal protective equipment including steel toed shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Manufacturing areas may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. This position requires the ability to bend, stoop and stand for prolonged periods of time, as well as climb ramps and stairs; read and write, work with a computer and keyboard; hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery, sirens, and alarms); speak to express or exchange ideas, impart oral information to include instructions; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception. You must be able to lift 50 pounds in a safe and proper manner. Associate will be required to operate powered industrial trucks and pass the Forklift License Program.
