Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has an onsite work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

The Office of Alumni Relations is a central unit of 30 professionals within Development and Alumni Relations, dedicated to engaging nearly 260,000 alumni across all Johns Hopkins University schools. The office leads seven key functional areas: (1) Reunion Programs, (2) Lifelong Learning and Travel, (3) Regional, Student, and Young Alumni Programs, (4) Mentoring Initiatives, (5) Communications, (6) Identity and Shared Interest Communities, and (7) the university-wide Alumni Council.

The Sr. Data Analyst serves as the primary expert on alumni and constituent engagement data within the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), a team of 30 professionals supporting a global alumni community of approximately 260,000. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations with a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Services, this role will lead the management and analysis of engagement data, ensuring data integrity, creating reports. optimizing reporting systems and generating business intelligence to drive alumni relations strategies, programs, and tactics, along with program evaluation (ROI, etc.)

Key responsibilities:

1. Data Management and Integrity

  • Collaborate with OAS to maintain and ensure the integrity of alumni data within the Johns Hopkins Advancement System (JHAS), a Salesforce-based CRM.
  • In collaboration with OAS, develop and enforce data governance policies to standardize alumni engagement data across schools.
  • Manage data imports, exports, and integrations, resolving discrepancies to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the OAR Communications team to improve the number of contactable alumni, including addressing invalid data and unsubscribe designations.
  • Oversee involvement and volunteer coding, ensuring accurate tracking of alumni engagement.
  • Monitor and integrate relevant data sources into JHAS.
  • Oversee maintenance and updating of biographic and demographic alumni data.

2. Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on alumni engagement data and reporting within JHAS.
  • Develop and manage reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools (Salesforce, Power BI, etc.) to track alumni engagement.
  • Conduct trend analysis and generate insights to enhance alumni programming and outreach.
  • Collaborate with OAS on Campaign Engagement Measures reporting and data management to support enterprise-level reporting on engagement for the Hopkins Campaign.
  • Lead Alumni Engagement Score reporting and provide training on best-use scenarios.
  • Partner with OAR Communications on annual reporting, infographics, and data-driven storytelling.
  • Oversee annual CASE Alumni Engagement Metrics reporting and track non-philanthropic campaign engagement.
  • Support the development of internal KPIs and process improvement initiatives.

3. CRM & Technology Optimization

  • Train OAR staff on data tools, JHAS functionality, and best practices.
  • Support segmentation and targeting strategies for alumni outreach.
  • Identify CRM enhancements to meet evolving needs.
  • Oversee AlumniQ data migration and event registration processes.

4. Survey & Assessment

  • Design and analyze alumni survey dashboards to assess engagement and satisfaction.
  • Interpret qualitative and quantitative data to inform programming improvements.

5. Collaboration & Strategy Development

  • Partner with Advancement Services to align on best practices and optimize database functionalities.
  • Serve as a strategic partner in fundraising and engagement initiatives.
  • Stay current on CRM developments by participating in JHAS training and workshops.

6. Data Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure data handling aligns with university policies and legal regulations (FERPA, GDPR, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities for workflow and process optimization.
  • Document and enforce data quality standards across OAR.
  • Represent OAR in pipeline management and data integrity committees.

7. Supervision

  • Manage and mentor the Data Analyst, including hiring, training, goal setting, and performance evaluation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years' experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Five+ years of experience in data analytics, preferably in higher education or alumni relations.
  • Expertise in SQL, SOQL, and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience managing data pipelines and workflow automation.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (Power Query, VBA, Macros, Pivot Tables).
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with experience presenting data-driven insights to leadership.
  • Experience with data analytics, reporting, and visualization tools (Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, ETL).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills to interpret data and engage stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data governance best practices and reporting methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a dynamic environment.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
