Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a remote work arrangement with an onsite presence of two days per week. The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Data Administration/Major Gifts unit, the Contribution Data Reporting Analyst provides Data Administration and OAS partners with contribution data reporting and validation support, and a variety of development accounting and constituent maintenance activities related to the processing of gifts and pledges for the Johns Hopkins Institutions. This role is primarily responsible for developing, documenting, and maintaining contribution reports to ensure that contribution data is optimized for pipeline and organizational reporting. The Contribution Data Reporting Analyst will collaborate with staff members, business units, and partners to create, update, and support data sources, databases, related technologies, and reports in order to deliver products that support Data Administration contribution data reporting and validation.

Key responsibilities:

Contribution Data Reporting and Validation Support (30%):

  • Production, distribution, and/or validation of various detailed and summary gift reports, surveys, and ad hoc financial reports with internal and external partners. Validate bimonthly cash receipt, progress, and campaign reports. Participate in the production of cyclical external reports and surveys such as the VSE, 990, Section 117, etc.
  • Various collectability management cycles (deletion and reconciliation of expired pledges). Assists in the validation of the development receivable balance for the Institutions and works with development staff to verify the accuracy of the information, and proposes modifications to processes.

Data Manipulation (40%):

  • Manipulate data from primary or secondary data sources to produce complex reports and data sets; streamline workflows to eliminate duplication of efforts and manual data manipulation.
  • Implement new business intelligence requirements using SQL, ETL (extract, transform, and load), business intelligence tools, and database programming and reporting tools.
  • Support routine audits and determine the root cause problems for data integrity and data quality issues identified through QA or by business report owners.

Visualization and Reporting (10%):

  • Compile, prepare, and distribute reports and data visualizations.
  • Support the development and implementation of Salesforce, Tableau, and Power BI data visualization solutions for staff members, business units, and partners across DAR.
  • Extract and translate data into interactive graphics, data visualizations, and dashboards using the appropriate tools.
  • In conjunction with team members, respond to ad-hoc query requests from OAS partners.

Project Management (10%):

  • Prepare documentation of all procedures used to ensure scalability and transparency.
  • Continuously evaluating departmental tools and resources.

Contribution Processing/other duties as assigned (10%):

  • Records, classifies, and summarizes accounting transactions.
  • Assembles documents for computer input, verifying and ascribing dates of credit, accuracy of account numbers and allocations, total cash received, and segregation of gift verses non-gift transactions.
  • Responsible for specialized transactions including gifts of securities, private grants, and deferred life-income gifts.
  • Verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government agencies (IRS) and Development accounting standards as defined by NACUBO and CASE.
  • Provides accounting services to Development staff and other related parties.
  • Checks accounting transactions to locate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconcile donors' gift and pledge account activity and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Analyze and research donor giving histories as required.
  • Maintains gift, pledge, and supporting application data records through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, coding, updating, and purging.
  • Initiate and respond to inquiries (oral and written) from divisional staff, business offices, and other institutional parties regarding all constituent data.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years related experience required, including at least one (1) year of experience developing and using business intelligence reporting and data visualization tools. Data visualization tools could include Power BI, Tableau, etc. Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing ETL (extract, transform, load) to design, build, test, and distribute customized reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to business leaders.
  • Experience developing, running, and managing SQL queries in conjunction with Python and/or R.
  • Knowledge of relational database structures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with good analytical skills.
  • Able to work multi-functionally to tackle problems.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce reporting and dashboard solutions.
  • Familiarity with SOQL
  • Understanding of and experience with data analytics and predictive models.
  • Familiarity with higher education, fundraising, and/or financial transactions. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations is a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret emerging technology information and reports for application to support business operations and improvements as well as setting goals related to technology use and solutions, best practices, or innovation.
  • Fluency in approaches to a wide variety of interactive products, and the ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new ones.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
