The opportunity

The Lead Ambassador plays a vital leadership role within the Academic Advising Office by fostering a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative environment among the Advising Ambassador team. This position serves as the primary point of contact for ambassador-related questions, assists in onboarding and mentoring new team members, and ensures smooth day-to-day operations at the front desk and during team meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Communication
    • Take meeting notes during team meetings and send follow-up emails to all ambassadors.
    • Maintain and manage the Microsoft Teams Channel and Teams within Teams for ambassador-related communication and documentation.
    • Encourage respectful and effective team communication in all interactions and meetings.
    • Model professional behavior by upholding team expectations and fostering an inclusive, respectful atmosphere for students and staff.
  • Onboarding, Mentoring, and Support
    • Assist in the onboarding, training, and mentoring of new ambassadors.
    • Provide guidance, support, and training to new and current team members as needed.
    • Regularly check in with ambassadors to ensure they are managing responsibilities effectively and to provide support for academic, professional, and personal well-being.
  • Operational Support
    • Serve as a shift lead by managing front desk operations, triaging incoming phone calls, and assisting students and staff as needed.
    • Input small IT issues through tickets; escalate more complex issues to the Office Manager.
    • Keep shared resources (e.g., OneNote) current and accurate.
    • Ensure timely completion of daily shift tasks and responsibilities.
  • Meeting and Event Coordination
    • Assist in planning staff meetings and reviewing agendas in advance to identify key topics or issues to present.
    • Assist in planning and executing student-focused events, such as "Plan Ahead," and provide constructive feedback to improve student services.
  • Student Support
    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students and ambassadors, connecting them with relevant SNHU and campus resources.
    • Provide direct support to students during registration, academic planning, and the add/drop period.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Must have 1 year of academic advising experience
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and support a team in a professional environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive student experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor with a passion for helping others.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic office software and technology. Such as: Microsoft Teams, Outlook, One-Note and Unify
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining an organized and clean office environment.

Additional Information:

  • This is a part-time position with flexible hours for students with work study funds.
  • The Student Ambassador will report directly to the office manager, Taylor Perry, and will receive guidance and training throughout their employment.
  • Ambassadors are also expected to perform other duties as assigned by the manager to meet the operational needs of the department.
  • Hours: 5-20 hours/week
  • Wage: $12.75

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
