The Smith lab at the University of Virginia in the Division of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology is seeking a full timeLaboratory Manager to oversee the operations of the lab. The candidate will be responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects in the lab, supervise staff and mentor students as needed. The candidate will also be responsible for making decisions related to laboratory operations and personnel, including quality control, compliance with regulations, budget priorities, long-range planning, and development and implementation of lab policies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Master's degree. Bachelor's degree accepted with additional experience. Experience: Master's degree: Four years of experience in lab technical and supervisory role. Bachelor's Degree: Six years of experience in lab technical and/or supervisory role. Licensure: Medical Laboratory Technician certification preferred. Certain areas may require certification to be obtained through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
