SUMMARY The Marketing and Communications Manager is a strategic role responsible for delivering and transforming comprehensive customer insights into clear, compelling, actionable messaging and resources for both internal and external audiences. Through this focused work, they will empower sales and marketing teams to enhance Mortenson's market relevancy, sales effectiveness and customer engagement across key industry sectors. A strategic thinker and creative executor, this role develops engagement strategies, including resources to support non-traditional sellers -from early customer relationship-building through targeted pursuits- to better articulate Mortenson's value across a long, complex buying journey. As a key partner to customer-facing leaders, the Brand Team, and the Pursuits and Proposals Team, this individual leads and develops industry research, customer journey maps, and tools. They also lead the planning and execution of core market summits and marketing campaigns, working to shape how we position our solutions, bringing together market trends, customer needs and competitive intelligence. Bringing a strong point of view, with tailored solutions, they are adept at navigating complex stakeholder environments, building strong relationships, and developing deep industry knowledge. This role requires cross-functional collaboration and the ability to deliver scalable solutions that meet the diverse needs of our business units. Success in this role depends on a deep understanding of Mortenson's services and how real estate and facilities impact customer outcomes and their bottom line. Their impact will fuel company growth and deliver best practices for targeted markets. RESPONSIBILITIES Customer + Market Insights
- Lead planning and execution for multiple Core Market Summits annually, including content development, customer deliverables and post-event follow-through.
- Immersive research into the core markets, including interviewing SMEs, customers, and attending educational conferences to develop industry knowledge that leads to insights about how our teams can solve complex customer challenges.
- Own development and delivery of market-specific campaigns, messaging frameworks; enhance Mortenson's visibility, expertise, and trust with key audiences across core industries.
- Turn insights into actionable customer messaging tools and initiatives from research, journey maps, PowerPoints and talking points and to customer emails and other digital and in-person techniques that strengthen customer connection.
- Identifying scalable opportunities to embed into the Sales System and proposal messaging to improve early positioning and differentiation across more markets.
Early Customer Engagement + Sales Enablement
- Act as trusted advisor and connector across business units to deliver strategic marketing support for core market initiatives, driving cross-functional collaboration.
- Systematize best practices for building customer trust pre-pursuit, including frameworks, training, and templates for BD and Marketing teams.
- Collaborate with Operating Groups to craft targeted messaging and materials aligned with market trends and customer needs, supporting early engagement and long-term opportunities with tools that strengthen customer relationships.
Companywide Marketing and Communications Support
- Support pursuit teams with messaging, strategy, and creative direction for core market pursuits, including content that builds trust and credibility.
- Partner with marketing and communications peers to develop tools that showcase industry leadership and customer-focused project outcomes.
- Contribute to national coordination of awards, sponsorships, speaking opportunities, and resource libraries that support companywide brand presence in key sectors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
- 8 or more years of experience in B2B marketing, market strategy, or customer engagement - ideally within professional services, construction, or related industries.
- Experience leading market-specific initiatives, campaigns, or events that elevate brand presence and drive early customer engagement.
- Strong skills in translating customer and market insights into strategic plans, messaging frameworks, and marketing tools.
- Ability to create systems and processes, and seek out additional responsibilities
- Agile at managing through complexity and demonstrated problem-solving approach.
- Proven ability to manage projects, build relationships with internal stakeholders, and influence at all levels of the organization.

The base pay range for this role is $91,800 - $137,700. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. #LI-PM1 Please make note:
