Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking a dynamic Communications and Industry Outreach Manager to support the mission and strategic initiatives of the New Mexico Bioscience Authority (NMBSA). This individual will play a key leadership role in enhancing the visibility of the bioscience ecosystem across New Mexico, expanding industry engagement, and managing targeted outreach programs that promote innovation, workforce development, and economic growth.

The ideal candidate will bring both strong communication skills and a background in program management, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders from industry, academia, and government. This is a unique opportunity for a professional passionate about science, innovation, and economic development to make a statewide impact in one of New Mexico's most promising industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a statewide communications strategy for NMBSA, including web, social media, press, and stakeholder messaging.
  • Lead NMBSA's statewide bioscience internship program, connecting students with bioscience companies and research institutions.
  • Design and manage an entrepreneurial education workshop series focused on commercialization, funding, and startup support for bioscience innovators.
  • Coordinate media outreach and public relations efforts to raise awareness of bioscience growth in New Mexico.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, universities, state agencies, and economic development organizations.
  • Support NMBSA events, conferences, and trade show participation.
  • Track metrics and outcomes for reporting to stakeholders and funders.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in or with bioscience, healthcare, technology, or economic development sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating content for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs, events, or initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and comfort engaging with industry, academia, and government partners.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico's economic and educational landscape is a plus.
