Position Summary:

As Field Service Engineer you will provide hands-on technical assistance, installation, startup, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, refurbishing, upgrades, and training at customer sites or remotely. This role offers an exciting opportunity to travel extensively, work directly with industry-leading equipment, and make a significant impact by helping our customers optimize their operations.   • Sign-On Bonus: $3,000 (Paid after 90 days)

  • Location: Candidates can be within the tri-state area (RI,MA,CT), must be able to work onsite at our N. Smithfield, RI facility when not traveling.

  • Travel: 75%, including domestic and potential for international. Can be traveling for 1-3 week periods.

Work You'll Do:

  • Become a trusted Subject Matter Expert on Herbold Meckesheim equipment, providing essential technical support and advice that helps customers keep their operations running smoothly.

  • Take the initiative to identify new opportunities to cross-sell or upsell equipment and services - helping customers improve their processes while growing your expertise and impact.

  • Install, troubleshoot, overhaul, and maintain a variety of equipment including gearboxes, lube oil systems, drive components, pelletizers, gear pumps, and more-ensuring machines operate reliably and efficiently.

  • Support the start-up of new systems and deliver on-site or remote training to empower customer personnel with the knowledge to succeed.

  • Work safely and responsibly by adhering to all safety policies, standards, and regulations-your safety and that of your team and customers come first.

  • When not traveling, be available for on-call support via phone, email, or video calls. Help troubleshoot issues quickly, prepare detailed service reports, and document all activities for continuous improvement.

  • Keep accurate, organized records of service activities and share reports and information packages promptly to ensure smooth communication.

  • Be flexible and adaptable-working weekends or holidays when needed, and supporting extensive travel periods to serve customers across North America and internationally.

  • Always be on the lookout for ways to improve service methods and processes-your insights help enhance quality and efficiency.

  • When at our North Smithfield, RI facility, lend your skills to small repairs and refurbishment projects, gaining broader experience and keeping operations seamless.

  • Embrace other duties and special projects that help us deliver world-class service and solutions to our customers.

  • FSE are provided a company credit card, per diem (when traveling) and paid over-time as needed.

You'll work closely with a collaborative team of engineers, technicians, and customer support specialists, ensuring that our solutions meet the highest standards of quality and performance. Your role will help shape the future of sustainable recycling technology, making a real difference in communities and industries worldwide.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An associate or bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a strong combination of experience and education that demonstrates your technical expertise.

  • Solid hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial machinery, including drive systems, gearboxes, and complex capital equipment.

  • A willingness and ability to travel extensively-often on short notice-and spend 1-3 weeks away from home supporting customer sites worldwide.

  • Valid passport, driver's license, and a clean driving record, enabling seamless international and domestic travel.

  • Safety certifications such as OSHA 10 or 30 (General Industry), reflecting your commitment to a safe work environment.

  • Proven ability to lead or assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial equipment, working effectively with millwrights and mechanical technicians.

  • Hands-on experience with wiring, control systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics, with the ability to read and interpret detailed equipment drawings such as P&ID, wiring diagrams, and exploded views.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly to customers and internal teams alike.

  • Ability to produce precise documentation-including process flow diagrams, functional descriptions, manuals, and detailed reports-that supports safe, effective, and maintainable equipment.

  • Able to work in physically demanding settings, maintaining safety and vigilance at all times while being able to lift 75lb+.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working independently in remote or minimal supervision environments, demonstrating self-motivation and reliability.

  • PLC and HMI programming skills that enable you to troubleshoot and support sophisticated automation systems.

  • Support experience with complex equipment in the recycling, plastics, or processing industries-applying your skills to sustainable solutions.
