JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Gate Attendant is responsible for controlling access to and from the shipyard facility to ensure security and safety. This position monitors all personnel, vehicles, and deliveries entering and exiting the yard, verifying credentials, and enforces facility policies and procedures. The Gate Attendant also provides customer service to employees, contractors, and visitors, while maintaining accurate logs and reporting any suspicious activity or safety concerns to security or management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Key Responsibilities:



  • Monitor and control gate access for vehicles and personnel.
  • Check identification badges and visitor credentials.
  • Maintain detailed entry and exit logs.
  • Communicate with facilities, supervisors, and other departments as needed.
  • Provide directions and information to visitors and contractors.
  • Respond to gate-related incidents or emergencies appropriately.


1. Access Control



  • Verify Identification: Check employee, contractor, and visitor ID badges or credentials before allowing access. (Passes to be produced & maintained for all ECR/JMR employees with authorized entry.
  • Log Entries/Exits: Maintain records of everyone entering and exiting the shipyard. (Subcontractors, visitors, customers)
  • Vehicle Inspection: Visual inspections of vehicles for contraband or unauthorized materials. (If something doesn't look right report to the facilities or Ops Manager)
  • Issue Visitor Passes: Register and issue temporary passes to authorized visitors. (JMR template)



2. Safety Controls



  • PPE Checks: Ensure personnel entering the yard are wearing or have the required personal protective equipment (PPE). (Steel toes safety glasses, Hard hat if roaming facility.
  • Hazard Awareness: Inform visitors of hazardous areas and ensure unauthorized persons don't access restricted zones.



3. Communication and Reporting



  • Incident Reporting: Document and report security incidents, safety violations, or unauthorized access.
  • (Nonconfrontational interactions only. (Notify facilities, Operations OR Production Manager if breach or call 911 for emergencies)



4. Customer Service



  • Directions and Assistance: Provide directions or basic assistance to delivery drivers, customers, new employees, contractors, or visitors.
  • Professional Demeanor: Always maintain a courteous and professional presence.



6. Compliance and Documentation



  • Daily Logs: Maintain detailed logs of daily activities, visitor logs, and incidents.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  1. Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  2. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.



This is NOT a physically demanding position and may accommodate most physical disabilities. There may be occasional lifting of office materials or files weighing not more than 20 pounds. Physical dexterity may be required when operating calculators, copiers, computers and/or other typical office equipment. This position may experience eye and muscle strain, backaches, headaches, and repetitive motion injuries from using computers on a daily basis and may have to sit for extended periods while reviewing detailed data.

Environmental Conditions:

This position works in an office environment with an occasional visit to a work-site. There is generally no exposure to hostile environments or loud noises or hazardous chemicals or smoke or extreme temperatures.

During work-site visits will be required to wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:

Hard hat

Ear plugs or attenuator

Safety shoes

Dust mask or respirator

Gloves
