The Research Office at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Senior Conflict of Interest Analyst.

About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the Research Compliance Director for Conflicts of Interest in Research (COIR) and in collaboration with compliance officials across WVU, the Senior COI Analyst for Research Compliance for Conflicts of Interest in Research (COIR) has responsibility for assisting in the oversight of WVU's COIR program to ensure compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies and align processes to ensure consistency across all programs.

What You'll Do



  • Assists in developing comprehensive regulatory guidance to the WVU research community;
  • Monitors related regulatory updates and industry best practices and works with the Director to development and implementation of COIR policies, procedures, practices and training programs designed to promote compliant practices and mitigate risk based upon findings;
  • Keeps abreast of federal, state, and local developments and compliance efforts related to research and develop communication tools to share this information effectively across the WVU research community;
  • Serve as second level support and decision-making for COIR inquiries;
  • Promotes awareness of institutional resources and developments in relevant policies and regulations, and providing specialized training to the WVU research community;
  • Drafts and updates COIR policies, procedures and guidelines to be reviewed by the Director;
  • Coordinates training and education of WVU staff about COIR policies including but not limited to one-on-one, online, and classroom training;
  • Creates and maintains COIR records, analyze data, and prepare reports via the online COIR system and database and tracking compliance with management plans;
  • Under the direction of the Director, and in consultation with senior staff, create, coordinate, and implement decisions on issues that impact COI operations.
  • Lead, Advise, and Supervise COI Staff (including Benefits Eligible Staff)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the following:

    • Research administrative experience


  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Strong interpersonal, including written and oral communication skills necessary to effectively interact with all levels of employees and customers.
  • High degree of personal integrity, ethics and confidentiality.
  • Ability to formulate and implement continuing education and training programs to a professional audience.
  • Ability to maintain the appropriate level of professionalism and solve problems in a changing environment.
  • Possess independent judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to be flexible as demands and priorities change.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of political acumen, instill trust, and secure confidence of individuals at all levels of University management and funding agency organizational structure.
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and discretion on a wide variety of complex and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to analyze federal/state laws and regulations and institutional policies, translating them into best practices, policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to analyze/define problems using logic and quantitative reasoning.
  • Solid familiarity with and the ability to utilize a PC and various software packages and the ability to apply such systems to Federal and private sponsored projects conflict of interest matters.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Office Productivity Software
  • Ability to recognize potential conflicts of interest and the legal understanding of how to manage problems presented
  • Interpreting rules and regulations and recommending policy based on such


Preferred Qualifications



  • J.D., M.B.A, or M.A.
  • Experience with federal policies and regulations regarding human, animal, COI, & RCR areas
  • Change management experience
