Symetra is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Specialist to join our Talent Management Team!

About the role

As a key member of Symetra's Talent Management team, you will handle complex workplace investigations and proactively find opportunities to enhance the employee experience. You will collaborate closely with HR, legal counsel, and other business partners to ensure fair, respectful, and inclusive outcomes.

What you will do



  • Employee Relations (ER) Case Management

    • Serve as the lead investigator for employee relations cases, ensuring detailed and complete documentation.
    • Handle various types of ER investigations, including alleged harassment, discrimination, misconduct, and policy violations.
    • Conduct interviews, analyze data, and document case details through comprehensive case notes and reports.
    • Collaborate with legal, corporate security, and other members of HR to understand relevant laws and make informed recommendations.
    • Foster psychological safety and trust throughout the investigative process.


  • Process Improvement & Reporting

    • Develop and refine ER processes in collaboration with Talent Management and Legal.
    • Create timely and accurate documentation, reports, and training materials.
    • Assess and analyze ER trends to identify systemic issues and recommend improvements.


  • Coaching & Compliance

    • Provide guidance to managers and HR partners on employee relations and employment law.
    • Review policies and communications to ensure clarity, fairness, and inclusivity.
    • Stay current on legal and regulatory changes affecting the workplace


  • Special Projects

    • Contribute to cross-functional HR initiatives and projects that support a positive and equitable workplace culture.

Compensation

Salary Range: $77,600 - $129,400 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are



  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred. PHR or other HR certifications preferred.
  • 5+ years in Human Resources/Employee Relations with experience in employment law and conducting employee investigations.
  • Ability to build psychological safety.
  • Complete tasks effectively in high-stress, sensitive situations.
  • Maintain objectivity and confidentiality with utmost integrity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • Understanding and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Some minimal and infrequent travel required.
