SUMMARY: The Senior Checking Services Representative is responsible for performing daily critical tasks related to checking accounts and ACH activity. This position primarily focuses on duties related to the Bank's overdraft privilege program, mobile deposits, return deposit items, and loss prevention tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs duties and applies critical thinking related to the following key/critical programs and tasks:

Privilege Program, Return Items, Return Deposit Items, ACH Processing, and all various daily tasks.

Privilege Program:



  • Performs collection calls to customers according to Privilege Manager Guidelines.
  • Sends all necessary correspondence to customers at the timeframe specified in the program.
  • Assists with working up payment plans with the Administrator as needed.


CIP and Loss Prevention Items:



  • Performs review of deposited items to prevent losses.
  • Follows up on new checking accounts to ensure customer was eligible to open/maintain account.
  • Contacts customers, banks and businesses to confirm accounts and deposits.


Return Deposit Items (RDI's):



  • Processes items received from corresponding banks in accordance with Bank and department policies and procedures.
  • Receives notifications from financial institutions that are returning checks of larger amounts.
  • Collects on amounts owed to the Bank, by phone calls and/ or letters due to RDI or items posted against closed accounts.
  • May assist in check fraud cases.
  • Locks and unlocks debit cards and force close accounts in accordance with bank policies
  • Performs "Know Your Customer" (KYC) and research with reports from appropriate business partners.
  • Reviews and approves mobile deposits. Ensures endorsements are correct. Recognizes potential fraud.
  • Answers questions related to checking accounts to ensure that Bank policies and procedures are followed; researches if necessary and provides feedback.to internal customers, and external customers as needed.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of two years in banking operations is required. One year or more of overdraft decision experience preferred. Light collections experience, as it relates to communications with customers, is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in analyzing data from a data base or on-line reports is preferred. Must have a solid understanding of NACHA operating rules and guidelines, Reg E and Reg CC, UCC law related to check processing and endorsements.

Understanding of Uniform Commercial Code Check Standards or National Check Professional will be required to be obtained.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Exceptional interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Strong negotiation and solid decision making skills are required. Must be detail oriented and enjoy working with reports and deadlines.
