Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a civilian Board Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist (Chief) to provide services for the VA Pittsburgh Health Care System, in , Pittsburgh PA.

Qualifications

  • Board certification and maintain acceptable Maintenance of Certification status in a branch of medical physics by an appropriate certifying agency sanctioned by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) or be licensed to practice medical physics by an appropriate jurisdiction sanctioned by the CAMPEP.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience within the preceding seven years
  • Must possess in-depth knowledge and experience with various radiation therapy techniques, treatment planning systems, and quality assurance procedures.

Clinical Duties:

  • Medical Physicists shall assist the Radiation Oncologist in ultrasound-guided prostate volume study procedures; IMRT marker seed placement, LDR and HDR prostate brachytherapy, pre/post implant CT analysis and dosimetry. The Medical Physicist shall ensure that brachytherapy equipment functions properly and are set up for each procedure in a sterile environment. Upon completion of the prostate volume study and approval of pre-implant plans, the Medical Physicists shall be responsible to order the specified seed and activity prescribed by the VA Radiation Oncologist. The brachytherapy service provided shall include support for ultrasound-guided prostate implant
  • The CTMP will oversee all physics and dosimetry operations.
  • Shall be on-site at least 50% of the time per week during clinical hours.
  • CTMP shall provide quarterly Quality Assurance reports for the Quality Assurance Committee and Radiation Safety Committee, as well as attend quarterly Radiation Safety meetings.
  • CTMP shall track, evaluate, and document all equipment-related quality assurance data including TLD and credentialing measurements for independent 3rd party analysis.
  • CTMP shall also provide shielding surveys, and reports as required by the National Health Physics Program of (NHPP) VA
  • CTMP shall also be responsible to ensure licenses are current for radioactive sources at our site.
  • CTMP shall ensure Radiation Oncology Service has appropriate licenses for users of all our software applications.
  • CTMP shall also be responsible for ensuring continuity of medical physics operations including communication among key personnel.
  • Medical Physicists shall be available, when necessary, for consultation with the Radiation Oncologist and to provide advice or direction to technical staff when radiation treatments are being planned or when patients are being treated. Where possible, should be present to observe and/or help supervise complicated simulations and/or treatment set-ups. Medical Physicist must be present at the machine during patient setup for SBRT/SRS and IGRT. Medical Physicist must be present all the times during HDR brachytherapy.
