Job Description
Overview: Vitro, the #1 manufacturer and distributor of automotive glass in North America, is looking for an experienced Process Technician to join the team in utilizing advanced technical skills and principles to improve production line processes with a goal of simplification for our Operators and Leads. This person will partner with our other Engineering team members, along the side of the production supervisor, and they will train operators on the technical skills of the process to improve the production throughput. Automation engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and technicians work together to create a way to achieve better results. This position will be located at our fabricating plant in Elkin, NC. This position requires flexibility in schedule to support the plant when they don't know what to do during off-hours. As we continue to streamline our processes and train Operators and Leads, the volume of off-hours contacts should subside. We are making progress every day on our journey to Best-in-Class performance in all departments. Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance with Production in resolving day-to-day production problems involving production equipment, usually within a specified area (e.g., CE, HE, VA1, VA3, etc.), to maximize efficiency, productivity, and reduce equipment downtime.
- Investigate process development problems, propose solutions, communicate and gather input from others, and implement approved solutions to support continuous improvement goals and ensure the best solutions are applied.
- Write job orders to correct malfunctions or improve processes, both in the short and long-term range, to take ownership of improvement opportunities.
- Support training activities and provide training as needed to employees in the use of new modified equipment within specific areas of accountability, to ensure a qualified workforce.
- Work with Engineering to determine new products and equipment to be tested and help to establish the parameters for evaluating new products and equipment (including assisting in the actual testing), to ensure a comprehensive assessment of new products and equipment before mass production.
- May order spare parts and supplies, etc., as necessary, determine adequate stock levels, and write store additions and reductions to maintain a proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.
- May specify, design, or order production tooling or related items and assist in determining standards for key process variables to ensure tools, measurements, and processes are in place to maintain targets for quality and productivity.
- Participates in all blueprint reviews in specified areas of accountability to ensure production readiness of equipment.
- Will be required to work off-hours as needed to support the line. May be asked to complete other tasks not mentioned here in order to support the good of the team and business tasks.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in production or process experience; automotive experience is a plus; automotive glass experience is required.
