About the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology is a vibrant and intellectually diverse School with people who are using new technologies to expand the notion of what it means to be civil and environmental engineers in the 21st Century. Celebrating 126 years this academic year, we teach our students the engineering fundamentals they need to be successful at the interface of the built and the natural worlds. Our program is focused on learning how to think, how to solve problems, and how to impact society. Job Summary

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (https://ce.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology (CEEatGT) in Atlanta, GA, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Professor of the Practice (PoP) position. As part of the relocation, integration and operation of the Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) as an affiliated organization at Georgia Tech, additional personnel will be required to advance the strategic vision for GSI. This newly created PoP position will be responsible for all the technical operations of the extensive laboratory facilities of GSI and ensuring that they provide technical laboratory testing support for the activities of GSI and its member companies. In addition, it is anticipated that the selected individual will participate in teaching undergraduate and graduate laboratory courses, as well as other courses within the candidate's area of engineering expertise. The individual will also assist graduate and undergraduate students in experimental research activities involving laboratory testing of geomaterials. Applicants for this position shall have an extensive background in engineering practice and in the operation of civil and environmental engineering laboratory facilities.

This position will support research, education and outreach program development to enable realization of the School's strategic objectives. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to laboratory program development, and the teaching and mentoring of students.

Job Responsibilities

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be an experienced professional and will leverage their expertise to bring substantial creativity and innovation to laboratory development and management as well as teaching within our curriculum. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will participate in the development and operation of new outreach and engagement activities between faculty, students and industry.

Required Qualifications

1. Have substantial bases of experience, normally at least ten (10) to fifteen (15) years, and a national/international reputation for excellence.

2. Have rich and extensive backgrounds in fields and disciplines related to the school or college of appointment at the Institute.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering.

2. Extensive leadership experience in operation and management of laboratory facilities.

3. Demonstrated experience in developing partnerships with business and industry leaders in both the private & public sectors.

4. National/international reputation for excellence demonstrated by active participation in professional organizations.

Student Success Criteria

1. The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing careers in engineering.

2. The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a distinctive student body.

3. The ability to adopt teaching strategies that support the learning and success of all students.

4 Has expertise in teaching, scholarship, and/or service that contributes to the success of students at Georgia Tech.
