Position Summary
The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago seeks outstanding candidates for an Open Rank Teaching Assistant, Associate or Full Professor based on experience. This is a full-time renewable twelve-month non-tenure track faculty position with a tentative start date in Fall 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lecturing for our Medical Student Brain and Behavior course (Block 6, Fall semester). Block 6 is part of the integrated medical curriculum for first- and second-year medical students. Duties include development of neuroanatomy content (including learning modules), lecturing, exams, and dissection laboratories. Successful involvement has the potential to develop into a leadership role for the block.
  • Director of an advanced anatomy elective ( 6 weeks Spring semester) for fourth-year medical students that have completed third year core clerkships The is an anatomy/surgery intensive course, and duties include curriculum development of the course's anatomy component, leading anatomy dissection laboratories, and assessment.
  • Development of new anatomy electives for fourth-year medical students, which would require ascertaining certain needs of the Phase 2 and 3 medical curricula and developing and implementing new electives to meet those needs.
  • Lead efforts to develop a new Master's program in Teaching of Anatomical Sciences.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Applicants must have a PhD or MD, at least 5 years of experience teaching human gross anatomy with dissection, at least 3 years of experience teaching neuroanatomy, and scholarly activities in the production of teaching technology materials for anatomy.
    • Applicants being considered for the rank of Associate or Full Professor should meet the minimum accomplishments: have made significant contributions to the education program as a whole through leadership and/or committee service in the area of curricular administration/management, a record of scholarly activity in medical education or another area of medicine (e.g., clinical, basic science, health equity) must be demonstrated including, but not limited to conference abstracts, manuscript publications and presentations/workshops at the local or regional level.
